Factual and locational knowledge is important because it helps us to answer other questions we have in geography. If students are aware of the significance of the location, they are better equipped to develop an understanding of how places and features are formed, how places change, and how they are valued or controlled. Knowledge of location brings an appreciation of the uniqueness of places and helps explain why the outcomes of universal environmental and human processes vary, and why similar problems often require different strategies in different places.
Practicing geographical knowledge quizzes not only reinforces our ‘extensive’ knowledge of the world – it can also be lots of fun!
